Lilly White Crested Gecko Care Guide
-
Housing: A 20-gallon terrarium is suitable for one or two adult crested geckos. Provide multiple hiding spots and branches for climbing. Use a substrate such as coconut fiber or eco-earth to maintain humidity levels.
- Temperature and Lighting: Keep the terrarium in a room with a temperature range of 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a ceramic heat emitter or an under-tank heating pad to provide a basking spot with a temperature of 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Provide a 12-hour light and 12-hour dark cycle using a UVB light.
- Feeding: Crested geckos are primarily insectivores. Offer a variety of live insects such as crickets, roaches, and worms. Feed 2-3 times a week. Also, provide a diet of a commercial crested gecko diet or a mixture of fruit baby food and powdered supplements.
- Water: Provide a shallow water dish for drinking and soaking. Mist the terrarium daily or use a humidifier to maintain a humidity level of 60-70%.
- Health: Regularly check for signs of stress or illness, such as lethargy, lack of appetite, and abnormal feces. Take your gecko to a veterinarian who is experienced in reptile care if you notice any concerning symptoms.
- Handling: Handle your crested gecko gently and with care. They are not as hardy as some other gecko species and are easily stressed.
- Cleaning: Clean the terrarium regularly and spot clean feces and uneaten food daily. Completely change the substrate every 3-4 months and disinfect the terrarium and accessories every 6 months.
By following these guidelines, you can provide a comfortable and healthy environment for your lilly white crested gecko.
