What water conditions do rabbit snails need?

Warm, hard, alkaline water suits them — they come from Sulawesi lake systems. Stable parameters matter more than exact numbers, and they need dissolved calcium to maintain a healthy shell.

Will rabbit snails overrun my tank?

No. Unlike most aquarium snails they reproduce very slowly, typically producing a single offspring at a time. They are one of the few snails you can keep without population control.

Are rabbit snails safe with live plants?

Yes. They graze algae, biofilm and decaying plant matter rather than healthy foliage, which makes them a good fit for a planted tank.

What water parameters do rabbit snails need?

Hard, alkaline water — pH around 7.5 to 8.5 with a good mineral content — at 76 to 84F. Soft or acidic water erodes the shell, and that damage does not reverse. Sulawesi species are less tolerant of poor conditions than most aquarium snails.

How fast do rabbit snails breed?

Very slowly. Tylomelania give birth to a single large juvenile at a time, at intervals of weeks. They will not overrun a tank the way a bladder or ramshorn snail does — that low reproductive rate is part of why they hold their value.

Will rabbit snails eat my plants?
